Grandpa and Grandma's House - Nickerson

Here is a couple of pictures from my grandparents Odus and Flora / Brooks Hill's last home they lived in, at Nickerson, Reno Co., KS, USA. I have many fond memories of this old place. I was younger when we would meet here for big Sunday dinners. As you can seen from the picture in black and white, we had such a crowd that some had to eat ourside on the lawn. In the picture we have Uncle Frank Hill, my brother John Pitzer, Uncle George Hill, Also in this picture is Viola Balwin / Hill (Uncle Frank's wife) and cousin Rozetta "Rosie" Hill, Uncle George's oldest daughter, and others I can not idendtify. After luch the older folks would set around and visit on the big porch. I would listen to the many stories, understanding why my grandfather Odus had the nickname "Windy". He talk about when he was a boy and how things were different in the olden days. He was had love for horses, and talk a lot about all the horses he once had. My grandfather Odus "Windy" Grant Hill came to Kansas from West Virginia in a covered wagon with his parents when he was about 6 months old. That is another story for another time. Between Christmas and New Year

Here is a picture of one of the deer who has been eating and killing my new little trees. I have labeled him "Old One Horn". Every year in the late fall and early winter it seems the deer just love to destory the little trees I have worked so hard to keep alive all through the dry hot summer and fall. I have found that the only way to keep this from happening is to put a wire fence around each tree that I want to keep. Even with that they will sometimes attack the wire fence and damage it or bend it out of shape. O'well I have planted so many trees, I guess I can afford to loose a few.
Weather today is not as nice as it was the past two days. Cooler and north wind, but the tempature is in the 50's, so it is not too bad.

What is happening in your world?

Here in the heartland from the Land of OZ, I hope you are having weather nice as we are. Not much wind, sun shinning, tempature around 50 degrees.

Here is a picture of me and my three older brothers and me, L-to-R Jim, Phill, John, Clarence, taken sometime in the early 1940's. Picture was taken in our backyard at the old home I was raised at, 1000 East First, Hutchinson, Reno County, Kansas, USA.

As you can see I came from a very prosperous background and and was raised with every advantage in life. Never mind, with all these advantages I was still able to have a very happy upbring, and did not turn out to bad, if I have to say so my self, thank you very much

Christmas at our house

This what our Christmas tree was this year. Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. The weather here in South centeral Kansas was perfect, the best I can remember. We turned off the furance and opened the windows, turned on the fans. Took a walk around the section, one mile total trip.
